Montepagano
Montepagano is a village situated at the top of the hill overlooking Roseto degli Abruzzi. From the town enjoys a splendid view of the marina below.
It was once the main center of the surrounding area and seat of an ancient castle. The old town retains traces of ancient medieval fortifications, with four doors.
Montepagano has long been the property of the Abbey of San Giovanni in Venere. In 1251 he was included in the Diocese of Atri and from 1424 until the arrival of the French (1806) became a fief of the family Acquaviva.
Preserves monuments and works of art of the past that may be considered particularly prominent and important.
It was for a millennium capital of a county whose founders were concerned to erect magnificent buildings and art treasures.
