Along this road you will run into valuable evidence of Benedictine monachism in Abruzzo, expressions of a Cistercian architectural tradition that developed following distinctive characteristics: S. Maria di Propezzano, S. Maria di Ronzano, S. Clemente al Vomano, S. Giovanni al Mavone.
Don’t miss Canzano a small town located on top of a hill (475 meters/1,160 feet above sea level) from where you can enjoy a beautiful view from Gran Sasso to the sea. Here you can taste the real Canzano style turkey an internationally known recipe.
From San Giacomo’s hydro-electrical station,
following the Rio Arno’s valley, you
reach to Prati di Tivo, a
well-known winter sports center close to
Pietracamela.
The way back brings you again along the Vomano’s
valley. A small town named Castelli is
recommended. An alternative could be to go straight to Castelli
and from here follow the panoramic road to Piana
di Campo Imperatore.
