Giuglianova
Defined as "Abruzzo's Posillipo", Giulianova has retained its atmosphere far from the clamour of the most touristic routes.True economic center of the area, its port houses one of the most important and colourful fishing fleet of the Adriatic. Giulianova is also known for a widely renowned sand castles contest, held on the third Sunday of July. In the historical center you can admire the Church of "St. Maria a Mare", which retains one of the most interesting Italian 300 century portals, and the octagonal Renaissance Cathedral of St. Flavian, which dominates the town from above. Remarkable is also the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Splendor with valuable masterpieces including a painting of the school of Paolo Veronese.
In Giulianova there are also two weekly markets, one on Saturday in the square and streets of the historic center and one on Thursday on the central waterfront.
