Chieti
City among the most ancient of Italy, its historical origins are mixed up with mythology. Chieti is a center of major artistic and cultural heritage.It was the capital of the Italian population of Marrucini and after an important Roman town (you can see it clearly form the vestiges of the Teather, from the complex of several temples and from the old tank of the ancient thermal baths).
It was destroyed by waves of barbarian Visigoths and Heruli. With the Angevins and especially with the Aragonese, reached its peak and was placed in charge of all the Abruzzi. The old town retains a remarkable heritage of civil and religious monuments and palaces, including the cathedral of San Giustino (with important masterpieces and the bell tower), the municipality palace courtyard with late medieval columns supporting the statue of Achilles (symbol of the town), the Palace of Justice, the Mezzanotte Palace, the church of San Francesco della Scarpa and many more historic buildings. There are also several interesting museums: the Museum of Civitella (Preistoric and Roman era), the Archeologic National Museum of Abruzzo, the Museum Costantino Barbella And the Diocesan Museum.
