Ascoli Piceno
Ancient city founded by Piceni, who, according to tradition, were led to the town by a woodpecker (a bird sacred to Mars) between the seventh and sixth century BC. Ascoli Piceno was built in a strategic position on a spur of rock at the confluence of Tronto, was a Roman colony (286 BC) and has traces of medieval urban planning and some Renaissance interesting monuments.http://www.comune.ascolipiceno.it
